FI-DACH Research Network
FI-DACH is an international research network that deepens and expands research into the mutual cultural relations between Finland and the German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). The aim of the network is to increase knowledge about both traditional and new cultural relations between Finland and the German-speaking countries.
In addition to linguistic, literary and translational links, the network focuses on all forms of cultural exchange between Finland and the German-speaking countries in the past and present. The network aims to create, promote and implement interdisciplinary co-operation projects in which questions, concepts and methods of linguistic, cultural, literary and translation research are innovatively combined. The activities are intended to open up new perspectives for research into cultural interaction between Finland and the German-speaking regions and, ultimately, to arouse interest in learning German in Finland and learning Finnish in German-speaking regions. In addition, the network supports further academic education in its key areas.
FI-DACH organises an international academic seminar every two years, which is hosted by each target country in turn. The network's first kick-off seminar took place in Cologne from 13 to 14 February 2020. The second international FI-DACH conference was organised at the University of Turku from 10 to 11 March 2022.
The FI-DACH research network was founded in February 2019. It continues the activities of the Centre for Finnish-German Literary and Cultural Relations at the University of Vaasa (2011-2017).
